2 year Dr. visit

Juneau saw Dr. T and he was 34" high (35%), weighed 26 lb (25%), and his head was 19" (35%). We managed to get him higher in the weight category - which is great.

Easter earthquake

Juneau is barely 20 months and already felt his first earthquake. I was standing in our kitchen with Juneau and wondering why the pots and pans were swaying. I thought... that's really strange, the wind shouldn't be that strong. Then i started to feel woozy and it took me forever (it seems) to realize what was going on. Turns out a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Mexicali. I picked up Juneau and ran outside. Michael followed shortly afterwards. Standing in the backyard (is that the best place to be?) we heard the neighbor's pool sloshing all about. Then we peered over and saw how much the water was moving. It was crazy. I don't think I felt my first earthquake until I was 30+. I guess that's the life of a California boy. I do remember my first typhoon though, I was just over 2 in Taiwan....

First Stiches

Juneau had his second trip to the ER last week. The first time was for jaundice. This was much scarier. He was riding on his tricycle around the house. It was right before bedtime and he was quite scared. Next thing I know he is crying, and on the floor. There was quite a lot of blood and he cut the inside of his mouth. I didn't think it was such a big deal at the time, but after I got a look inside, we jetted straight to the emergency room. The cut was so deep, like 3/8". We went to Mission, and waited in their nice pediatric waiting room for about an hour and were seen by a couple nurses and a physician's ass't. He said Juneau needed stitches, then papoosed him, had another guy hold his head, and gave him a massive shot in his lip to numb the pain. Then he put two stitches in. Juneau did pretty well, considering, but he was screaming the whole time, and obviously extremely scared. I barely made it through that part of the ordeal. It was nice that they had a lady there just to calm children down, but it turned out to be pretty useless, since he was so mad. The next day was hard. He wouldn't eat or drink anything, until I guess he got hungry on the way to Sea World. The Graduate Puffs were a miracle worker. I also got him to drink an enire smoothie, and have french fries for dinner. It was all he would eat. Now, it's been a week, and it's like nothing happened. The scrape on the outside of his chin is more or less healed. The stiches, which I thought would have dissolved by now, are still there, but the wound looks like it's healing well. Now we don't let Juneau tricycle into the bathroom if it can be helped.

Spring break was a bit short, well it's a week anyway, and Michael headed to Hong Kong on Thursday, but we managed to squeeze 2-3 days in Baja. We hadn't been in years, so it was nice to make it back to the place we got engaged. With dogs and child in tow, we headed across the border despite all the travel warnings not to travel to Mexico due to gang warfare. It was great. We were there during the week and so we had a private beach to ourselves. Very peaceful.

update

It's been a while since I've written anything. Juneau is starting to look more like a boy every day and less like a baby. He can sign "more" and say bye bye (dada) and uh-oh. He can also say mama, but i'm not sure he knows what that means. His first word which was months ago was mogwai, but he hasn't said that much since. He got a modeling gig last month for Osh Kosh in Santa Barbara, and some $$$ to his college fund. He is really starting to eat more these days and loves grapes, berries, bananas, hot dogs, french fries, white rice and combo. His food loves are right in line with his american/chinese roots.
